The "Big Ocean"

The girls and I went to the beach on labor day to spend the day with my parents.  The girls had never been down on the "real" beach where the big waves are, we usually go to the bay where it's warmer and calmer. This time, however, I wanted them to experience the "big ocean".  So we went to the beach at D Sands in Lincoln City.  They had a wonderful time, it was fun seeing them play chicken with the waves, get numb from being in the water, and find seashells and other sea treasures.

This was the initial reaction to the water, you can really see it on Hazels face.

But it wasn't long before they were used to it....

They found seaweed, shells, cool rocks, dead crabs, and

and cucumbers? Who knew you could get garden vegetables from the ocean.

We made a fabulous sand castle.

After a while Hazel decided it was more fun to be warm and play in the warm sand.

But Violet preferred to continue to get cold and wet.

It didn't take long though until she found out the dry sand is way warmer.

It was a wonderful beautiful day at the beach and there was tons of sand to clean off and shells to cart home.  Can't wait for the next time!!

I wish my kids could know the joy of going to the beach w/o a 12 hour drive to the fake beach of the gulf!
