South of the Border

MEXICO~ This is the flea market at the LaBufador Blow Hole. This place drove me crazy!!! I don't think I have ever said "No Thank You" so many times in my life! You couldn't walk 3 ft without someone trying to pull you into their store, which has the EXACT same stuff as the place next to it. You have to walk through this flea market to get to the blow hole, which means you had to walk back through it to get to the bus. They got ya where they want ya! =)

Here we are in front of the blow hole.

This is the LaBufadora Blow Hole. It is really quite impressive. I think they said there are only 3 or 4 in the world. The water comes spraying out about 70 feet sometimes.

Here is a little LaBufadora Serenade. For some reason we didn't take a picture of the guy up the walk who was dressed as a Mexican Indian playing the piccalo and dancing around. You'll just have to picture that one for yourself. =)

This is where we ate lunch. I can't remember the name of it. But it was really yummy. Eating here was almost like walking through the flea market with regard to being asked to buy stuff. We could have spent a fortune on mariachi bands, single roses, and plastic jewlery.

I saved this one for last so I could explain it. In Mexico it is not a law that children have to go to school. So parents will keep their kids out of school and make them sell things on the streets to tourists. The item of choice to sell is little packs of 5 Chiclet size gum. The kids have to take the money back to their parents, and when they are all out of what they are selling the parents just give them more sell. We were encouraged by our tour guide to not give the kids money, because they can't keep any of it or they will get in trouble. He said that if you want to give them something buy them a soda or a taco. We gave a little boy that came to our table at lunch a napkin full of tortilla chips, but he just took them and through them away. The picture above is 2 boys who have scored a popcicle from a nice tourist. These kids just break your heart, and you hate to not buy their cheap gum, but you also don't want to support the horrible cycle of these lazy parents. It is very sad.
Mexico was ok, I am not in a big hurry to go back. But the food was good.=)
