The Shower

The shower is done! Yay! Tile and grout is no fun, but we persevered and it looks great!  Now all that's left to do in the bathroom is the floor and vanity. I can see the end! =)

We did put in a little personal touch to the rock border. We removed a few of the preset stones and replaced them with agates the girls have been collecting. I love how it turned out.

Helping

You might call it child labor...I call it cheap labor teaching my children the value of hard work and learning skills that will come in useful later on in life

Leaving a Mark

Wow! I've got some 'splaining to do. It's been summer, crazy busy twisty turvy summer.  I'll try and catch you up in a few blogs.

With all this sheetrock showing, it's like a world of blank canvas, so we let the girls decorate a part that will not be painted over, but just covered up.  So in 100 years when this house is remodeled again they will see that a couple of goofy girls lived here.

Either Violet is on her tip toes or Hazel is short...or maybe a mixture of both.

And in case you were curious about what the people in 100 years will find when they remodel, here is what will be commemorated forever....Unicorns pooping rainbows. You're welcome 2115.

Framing, Wires, and Sheetrock

Progress is being made!!

The girls and I were away for a Girl Scout thing for a weekend and Troy got the framing up...

...and all the wiring done. Lots and lots of wires.

There is no longer a hallway to the bathroom, but the bathroom is going to be a lot bigger now! A fair trade I'd say.

It was a late long night putting up the sheetrock on the ceiling. Violet got to help make the circles where the holes for the plumbing are. I got to help put the 12 foot sheets of sheetrcok up. Yikes, those things are  heavy and awkward to work with!

Then the wall sheetrock started.

Much to my (and I'm sure Troy's)  pleasure, Troy's dad and brother came to visit. My arms and Troy's sanity are grateful they did! They got to help. =)

I am excited to see how the rooms are going to look!

Just Some Interesting Tid Bits

In the middle of all this remodel there is this special place that my sweet husband has preserved for me.  We have been measuring the girls heights there since they were  a year old. I am very thankful Troy is so handy, because it's right next to where the new bathroom door is going to be.

(It's located on the left side..See the purple in the pic above, it's next to the purple in the pic below)

Here is the pile of wood that was salvaged from the gutting of the rooms. On one fun Saturday I got to pull all of the nails and screws out of all that wood. It ultimately resulted in me feeling the need to get a tetanus shot, because I walked into a nail that was sticking out of the end of one of them. 4 hours and about a million nails later we had a pile of reusable boards. It's the least I can do, since my husband/ contractor has to do all the thinking, planning, and HEAVY lifting.

I just love the old rafters! It's fun for me to look at them and think about what may have gone on in this old house back in 1908 when it was built.

Is it snowing in our house you ask? Well no, that is the dust I keep referring to. We weren't even doing any demolition at this moment and there was dust floating around. I was just taking a picture of Violet, not even aware that it was there.

I've got a bunch of daredevils in my family.

One Big Room

I got go knock out the first parts of the ceiling in the bathroom. Let me just say that I am so glad Troy is stronger than I am! He makes it look so easy!

Dust, debris, and more dust!

The door of the pink room, or should I say the room formerly known as the pink room...

Now it was just one big room, one big dusty bathroom...

We were still able to use the shower, but had to get creative with the shower curtains so water didn't get all over the place.

And then there was no door, just a tarp covering the entrance to the bathroom. You can see on the ground where the wood floor ends, that's where the "pink room" door used to be. Now we just had one big room, with a shower in the middle of it. =)

It Begins

We have been wanting to do some remodeling for a long time, and on Memorial Day weekend those plans started to become reality! It is going to be a process, but I have a talented and handsome contractor who knows a whole bunch about remodeling, so I know that the process will be great and exciting.

Troy and I have  been sleeping in the girls old room, after we upgraded them to our big bedroom, and since this one of the rooms getting remodeled, we have been relocated upstairs to the current TV room.

Here is the hallway to the girls old room and bathroom BEFORE it all began...

The lovely pink room, yikes it is pink! This room after completion will be the TV room. This is looking into the room from the door

The bedroom looking from the corner by the window back towards the bedroom door.

Oh boy, so much pink, is it hurting your eyes....this lastl wall in the bedroom is where the new door for the TV room is going to be...

This is the other side of that wall, where the new TV room entrance will be...

This is the unused side of the attic, which is directly above the pink room and bathroom, this is going to be the girls new room. Troy and I will be moving back into our old room.

This is the old original side of the house, that was build in 1908. Them thar are some old boards!

Here is a picture of the bathroom, I forgot to get a pre remodel picture, I have one somewhere, just not at the moment. But you can see how the bathroom is configured right now, so the AFTER shots will be more impressive!

It started with a whole lot of mess! As Troy started pulling stuff off the wall, he found a layer of Sheetrock, a layer of paneling, another layer of Sheetrock, then the lath and plaster, and then the blown in insulation. It was a dusty sheetrocky mess for a while!

There were ALOT of trips back and forth the trailor and lots of bags of garbage to fill. I am so glad that part is over! Poor Troy and I were blowing black stuff out of our noses for days. Fun!

The view from above, the attic looking into the pink room.

The backside of the shower. The door to the pink room is on the right.

This is the after Sheetrock removal picture of where the new door will go.

So many pictures and so much progress made already...More pics to come!!!
