Mission Accomplished

First of all.....CONGRATULATIONS TO: Wendy and Will on their #3 Westyn Jack born on 1/13 and also CONGRATULATIONS TO: Corey and Kelsey on their #1 Paisley Emberlyn born this morning 1/23. They are both perfect and adorable. Hopefully their blog will get pictures up soon.

If you remember my New Years Resolution last year was to read a book over 300 pages. Well...I accomplished my goal, and then some. I have read13 books over 300 pages, and one was not. I had forgotten how much I love to read, and how relaxing and enjoyable it is. I have truly enjoyed getting back into it. I thought I would give you a list of the books I read...

Carolina Moon, Time and Again, Captivated, Entranced, Charmed, and Enchanted- All of these are by Nora Roberts. Carolina Moon was my first accomplishment last year. All of these are about the same, cheesy predictable romance novels. I actually can't recommend them because the content is sometimes racy. But they are entertaining and all of them have good interesting stories. Captivated, Entraced, and Charmed are also referred to as the Donovan Trilogy.

A Thousand Splendid Suns- Going from Nora Roberts to this book was kind of a shock to the system. This is an eye opener, because though it is not a non fiction story you know that this is probably a lot of womens life story in the mideast. I came away from this book feeling very grateful for the life I have. I very much recommend this book.

Kite Runner-I had to read this after I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns. I was kind of nervous to read it because it is written by the same author, and A Thousand Splendid Suns was such a deep gut wrenching read. And this was just as gut wrenching, but at least I was prepared this time. It is a wondeful story of friendship, loyalty, and enduring. I loved it.

Peace Like A River- This is a great book. The author, Leif Enger, is a very good storyteller and the story itself is very interesting. Thank you to Aunt Dawn for the loan! It is books like this that inspire me to want to write, but then I also get intimidated because I don't think I could ever write as compelling and thought provoking as this author.

Witch of Blackbird Pond-This book actually doesn't count for my resolution, because it is less than 300 pages. But I read it so I thought I should give it a shout out, especially since it is my favorite. I get something new out this book everytime I read it. It is a great look at how things were when our country was new, with a little action and a little love.

The Twilight Series- Ok, so most of you who know me already know that I loved these books. I am actually on my second round with them. I liked the plots, the characters, the relationships, and especially the love story. I don't think I can really elaborate any more because I might embarrass myself. Bottom line....LOVE THESE BOOKS!

Next on my list are Jane Eyre and Revolutionary Road.

I think this is the first year I actually did what I resolved to do, and it has inspired me to resolve again. So this year I am resolving 2 things. First... I am going to send out birthday cards, mostly on time. So if you want a birthday card from me give me your address and your birthday. =) I already have my birthday cards for January done, I just have to put them in the mail on time. Yeah. Second....and this one is going to be more challenging and a little cliche, but.....I am going to lose weight. I want to fit into all of my summer clothes, I refuse to go buy more just because I can't fit into them. My first test is this next week, I have to send out 2 birthday cards and slow down my Dr. Pepper intake in the same week!

I hope to blog a little more freqently coming up. This particular entry just took me forever. Let me know if you have read any of the above books, and what you thought. HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

That's funny bc I think one of my secret resolutions was to quit trying to send bday cards bc I can NEVER get them out on time :)

I loved Peace like a river but it's been awhile since I've read it. You know how I feel about Twilight. Did you girls ever go see the movie?

I have decided that reading is the new trend. With Twilight out though, it's not too hard to see why. Unfortunately, as I've told you, everything else just seems a disappointing read now. Ho Hum. I suppose I'll recover from the shock and enjoy reading again someday....I did recover after Harry Potter, but that took me a while too! Haven't read any of the others, but maybe I'll have to now.....after I'm ready. =)

YEAH!!! TWILIGHT!! I love them too! It was super cool getting to meet Stephanie Meyer this summer! I'm trying (but failing) to get Brent to read them...oh, well, he did get me the Collectors Edition of Twilight and The Host for Christmas...he's good. We'll have to chat Twilight some time!

Hi Laura--great to visit with you on Saturday! Hope we didn't keep you from work too long! Congrats on keeping the resolutions--my record so far is miserable. I too MIGHT read Revolutionary Road, but I heard it is very depressing, so I may have to wait until the weather is sunnier & warmer. I just started The Book Thief this afternoon. I'll let you know how I like it. Talk to you soon =) Dawn

Good for you - I tried to make Jeremy resolve to read ONE whole book last year, he did not. I did not do as much pleasure reading as I have to read too much for work & school. But I enjoy reading more than I used to.

Good resolutions for this year too!
